about

Jonny Walker founded Keep Streets Live in 2012 in response to draconian busking rules/laws in the UK. He worked tirelessly with councils and other members of the community up and down the country to abandon the draconian policies, instead implementing a busking code of conduct in many places, such as Liverpool and York.
Jonny fought for the right to Keep Streets Live and to allow public spaces to be public. He worked with many charities and was patron of Inn Churches based in Bradford. Jonny entertained people all over the world with his wonderful talent, his beautiful songs and beaming smile, He was probably the UK's most prolific busker.
Jonny inspired and continues to inspire so many of us with his music, his dedication and ability to be nice and always consider other people. Jonny was armed with the law, he was determined yet calm and collected in his approach towards officials, he believed we should all communicate to resolve potential problems and work together.
Jonny was pioneering the way with online live busking streams.

Jonny Walker you are an amazing man, who did an incredible amount of good in a very short time. You are missed greatly and will always be remembered.
Thank you Jonny
RIP.

lyrics

There’s a beacon of light
that shines through the night
Brighter than anything before
Sings and dances through the night
We can watch if we like
Igniting music lovers around the world

An advocate and activist
Fairness he would demand
From Liverpool to Hull
From York to Camden town
PCSO’s tried to turn him away
Eloquently he proclaimed
I’m here to stay in this public space to play,
I’m here to stay in this public space to play

A travelling troubadour
But he gave us so much more
Confidence and self-belief
Living our lives through the streets
Keeping streets Live
With your positive vibes
greeting passers-by with your wonderful smile

An advocate and activist
Fairness he would demand
From Liverpool to Hull
From York to Camden town
PCSO’s tried to turn him away
Eloquently he proclaimed
I’m here to stay in this public space to play,
I’m here to stay in this public space to play

Followers from around the world
Tuning into his lighthouse
Finding comfort from his heart
Singing songs with a homeless star
Ballroom dancers by the sea
Choirs joining him in Leeds
Join together be as one
painter, singers, creative ones

An advocate and activist
Fairness he would demand
From Liverpool to Hull
From York to Camden town
PCSO’s tried to turn him away
Eloquently he proclaimed
I’m here to stay in this public space to play,
I’m here to stay in this public space to play

He closed his case one last time
bidding us all “Good night and God bless”
The music couldn’t save his soul
He gave it his all
The Rings from his strings don’t sound anymore
There’s a silence on the street, no sound can cure
